Istria feels separate from the rest of Croatia. Christened 'Terra Magica' bythe Romans, this small, triangulär peninsula was Italian until World War II. Istria has its own, celebrated gastronomy, its own wines and olive oils. Istria is more Westernised than the rest of the country, and appeals to the visitor looking for something more satisfying than Standard tourist menus and pebbly beaches. The joy of Istria is that nothing is ever far away and inland is every bit as beautiful as the coast. The road network is good although, unfortunately, away from the urban centres, public transport is exceedingly limited. If you have the time and the inclination to hire a car, however, the Investment will not be wasted - the region is brimming with villages weird and wonderful.
