Cafes and restaurants fill in high season around the old centre of Medulin and every village has its popular eateries. Many only open during the summer - although you can find places in the off-season. If you're going to have one meal here, have it at the Batelina - but make sure you book first.
Batelina
Batelina is generally acknowledged as one of the best fish restaurants in the whole of Istria. It's very popular and you must reserve days in advance. If you're dropping in on spec, do so early - that is to say at opening time, 5pm. The owner is a profesĀsional fisherman and the menu depends entirely on what he and his friends manĀaged to land that morning - don't expect a set menu. It's a small venue with only 26 covers, with seats outside in summer. Try the mixed marinated fish as a starter, small portions of half-a-dozen types including crab, sardine and tuna. A three-course meal, with wine, will cost about 450kn a head.
Cimulje 25, Banjole (052 573 767). Open 5-11pm daily. No credit cards.
Konoba Ankora
The only konoba in Premantura to serve topla marenda (cooked daily lunches), this place fills with the locals all year round. It's fairly priced and friendly, with a large outdoor terrace complete with a barbecue and old anchors.
Selo 144, Premantura (052 575 642). Open 10am-10pm daily. No credit cards.
