Much of the accommodation around Rovinj is in package hotels, the majority run by the Maistra group (www.maistra.hr). These include the Hotel Eden (Luja Adamovica, 052 800 400) with tennis courts and bowling alley, the Hotel Park (Ivana Maletic Ronigova, 052 811 077) with scuba diving, boat rentals and children's clubs and the self-catering and reasonably priced Amarin Apartments (Monsena, 052 802 000). The latter is a great option as it shares a pool and restaurants with other Maistra venues so you're not tied to making your own food and entertainment. Private rooms can be arranged with local travel agencies. With the beach less
than 2km (1.25 miles) away, taking a simple room in the Old Town for 200kn-250kn can be a great way to enjoy Rovinj. Make sure you book ahead in high season if you want to be near town or the beach.

St Katarina, a pine-covered island in the harbour about the same size as Rovinj's Old Town, is dominated by a modern, 120-room resort hotel built around a former mansion by a luxury chain also responsible for high-standard hotels in Alpine resorts and the Miramar outside Opatija. The island and its rocky beaches are pretty much taken over by hotel guests, who have the run of a beach bar, tennis courts, two swimming pools, garden spaces and beautiful stretches of pine forest. A free boat leaves every half-hour for the five-minute journey between the Old Town and the car-free island. Meals are included in the room price.

This affordable hotel has a great downtown location: on a hill, with its back to the base of the cathedral and its front facing St Katarina Island and the sea. Although it's in the heart of town, it's far enough away from the harbour to avoid the noise. The 70 rooms are pretty basic and sadly without air-conditioning,  but the  location and reasonable prices make up for the lack of frills. Service is courteous and efficient.
